What the effing eff.
According to MSNBC.com, Amazon is catching some heat for selling the book, “The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure,” by Philip R. Greaves (including his name in case you want to, you know, send him a letter.) The book’s description is (verbatim):
This is my attempt to make pedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them, by establishing certian rules for these adults to follow. I hope to achieve this by appealing to the better nature of pedosexuals, with hope that their doing so will result in less hatred and perhaps liter sentences should they ever be caught.
Seriously? I don’t even know where to go with this one. Amazon’s argument is that it does not censor and the 1st Amendment protects free speech, basically:
“Amazon believes it is censorship not to sell certain books simply because we or others believe their message is objectionable. Amazon does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts, however, we do support the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions.”
I’m all for free speech and not censoring but this book seems to be promoting and making it easier for criminals to commit crimes. Why don’t we just package the book with a big white van filled with candy while we’re at it? Amazon doesn’t need to censor the book, they just can simply choose not to sell something that’s obviously not just poor taste, but criminal. I have a good idea! Make this Philip Greaves psycho sell his book out of his backyard and then To Catch A Predator can hang out on his street and arrest everyone who comes to buy it. Then arrest him. Problem solved.
